I am more interested in a device that translates misspelled missives from people than one that helps them spell better. It makes perfect sense that people would use ‘words’ like “Wat” and “u” when they prefer typing speed to accuracy. I think we can mitigate the damage, though, if we had tweeting and IM systems that automatically translate the result into actual words on the readers’ end. That way, we can at least know that kids are reading proper words, if not writing them.
