Google discontinued their appointment slots feature of Google Calendar. I was using that to schedule meetings with students. It was really nice because I could just block out some time for meetings and send a link to students and they would just sign up for 30 minute slots in the block. But no more. Does anybody know of a good alternative?

Doodle?

Set up a Google spreadsheet, give students access. That’s how we handle seminar visitors. Not foolproof,, they need to use the same id you used to email them.

@SG: I was thinking “Doodle,” also.
Qualtrics can also be set up to do it, if you’re (or your Ph.D. student TA is) experienced enough with it. You can have a series of choices that are times, each with a “quota” of however many students you want to be able to sign up for those times, and set the choices up to disappear when the quota is met. For example, you can set it up so that each quota = 1 and each choice disappears from the list after someone selects it. If you have access to Qualtrics and need info, I’d be happy to give you more info on how to do it.
@David: this is a good choice overall, though there’s a potential problem where a person can erase someone else’s name from a slot and put theirs in instead. Requires a bit more trust than Doodle or Qualtrics or similar.

ProfHacker had a post about this with a pointer to YouCanBook.Me, and there are some other suggestions in the comments: http://chronicle.com/blogs/profhacker/r-i-p-google-calendar-appointments-detailed-tutorial-on-possible-replacement-youcanbook-me/45183

I’m trying out http://www.scheduleonce.com/meetme right now, otherwise you can still use Appointment Slots if you have a Google Apps account – they only eliminated it for normal (free) accounts

https://www.bespeak.io recently added support for appointment slots. It is really easy to use, and has the most google like interface for making appointments.
